Digital subscription raised 350% since 2012. In the same period, the print circulation went down by 35%.

"Two factors were key for the above numbers. Faster internet connection and customer shift to mobile", said Mr. Brian Rock of The Newspaper Works, Australia. Brian was speaking at the ANP 2015 conference in Bangkok organised by the ASEAN Newspaper Printers.

 

Internet growth in Australia is really saturated with 9 out of 10 households already have internet connection. News reading from desktops are not going to grow. However, only 11% of readers are using mobile to read news. That's where the growth is going to be.

" The key point is that 4 out of 5 digital readers still read printed newspapers. That shows that digital in combination with print is the best approach for future", concluded Mr. Rock.
