Xeikon presents a new liquid toner technology that promises better recyclability, print quality, substrate versatility and high coverage. Target markets are books, magazines, transactional and direct mail. Presentation by Jeroen Van Bauwel.
Océ (Canon) states being able to run standard offset papers on inkjet presses. Dr. Croll from Océ Printing System reports at Fogra Symposium today. This is true for the lower-end papers (newsprint and the like) as well as for the high-end papers (image printing papers). The problem lies in the mid-range area of the paper quality market.
The Océ solution: high resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi reduces problems with mid-range paper qualities. Special ink adaptation improves quality and ink adherence capability. In addition the press was improved. By this package of measures Océ avoids the use of primers.
Industry 4.0 influences the development of Future Printing, says Dr Paleani from PerfectPattern. Mass customisation, on-demand Production: Print jobs are searching their production way and steps themselves, without human intervention, in a Cyber Physical System. The virtual smart printing factory works on the basis of self regulation. Automatic managers learn and decide about the conditions of production.
Hunkeler offers a newspaper finishing line for broadsheet and tabloid production in one go without stopping and reconfiguring. They focus on flexibility and requirements of remote printers (medium speed, small circulation, high flexibility). Manroland in the opposite focuses with Foldline on higher volume and higher speed production (e.g. Daily newspaper production).
Advantages of LED: high quality light, can be very close to D50; Fogra will offer “certified LED products” (list) soon. Energy costs of LED can be very much lower than your current technology.
Important for decisions: light-output (lumen/watt), life time and maintenance factor.
(Presentation of Detlef Fiebrand, Color Consulting, Fogra certified Consultant)
M. Werfel (WAN-IFRA) discussed the question of inkjet in newspaper production. Is it restricted to nich applications or can it play a major role now and in future. The slides of the presentation are attached (German language).
